Chiropractic adjustments are at the heart of most of our treatment plans. The goal of the adjustment is to alleviate any unwanted pressure and/or inflammation on the nerves that exit the spine. We have millions of nerves in our body, but they all originate from the brain and travel down. These delicate nerves are protected by our spine. Unfortunately, sometimes do to trauma, lifestyle habits, and poor posture, our spine can become misaligned. These misalignments can cause nerve interference which can manifest itself as localized pain, numbness or in more severe cases, pain that radiates to other parts of the body. Often times these misalignments go undiagnosed or are mismanaged with visits to primary care physicians who often prescribe pain relievers or anti-inflammatories that only mask the pain. Regular spinal check-ups help to proactively get ahead of these misalignments before they manifest themselves as more serious types of discomfort.
A well-maintained spine also means we do not have unwanted pressure or imbalances that lead to further wear and tear such as premature arthritis or disc injury. Your body operates much like your car in that you have to keep your engine running smoothly, if not we are prone to breakdowns. Think about your car for a minute. Do you regularly get oil changes and perhaps tire rotations? We balance and rotate our tires so that we do not have uneven wear and tear. If our tires wear unevenly, the rest of the vehicle starts to be affected, and before you know it, that smooth ride you once had is no longer so smooth. These same principles apply to our bodies, whether you are looking to get rid of pain or would like continued wellness, it starts with the chiropractic adjustment.
